Kallumakkaya Thoran – Creative Chef – Kappa TV. Mussels sauteed with ginger-garlic and spices. A spicy dish, and very common in Northern Kerala (Malabar). It can be served as an appetizer or as a side dish with rice. You can simply cook Kallumakkaya (mussels) thoran in 14 ingredients and only 7 steps. Ingredients

1 Prepare 1 of . Mussels / kallumakkaya – 250gm.
2 Take 2 of . Turmeric powder – 1/2 tspn.
3 You need 3 of . Water – 1/2 cup.
4 Approximately 4 of . Grated coconut – 1 and half cup.
5 It’s 5 of . Turmeric powder – 1/2 tspn.
6 Take 6 of . Red chilli powder – 1 and half tspn.
7 Take 7 of . Garaam masala – 1 tspn.
8 You need 8 of . Pepper powder – 1/2 tspn.
9 It’s 9 of . Greenchilli – 1.
10 About 10 of . Onion – 1/2 chopped.
11 About 11 of . Curry leaves.
12 About 12 of . Oil – 2 tbspn.
13 Prepare 13 of . Onion – 1 chopped.
14 Approximately 14 of . Ginger garlic paste – 1 tspn.

Cooking Instructions

Step 1 Clean and remove dirt from mussels and boil the mussels with 1/2 tspn turmeric powder, salt and half cup of water..
Step 2 Cook for 5 – 10 minutes and switch off the flame. Keep it aside..
Step 3 Grind grated coconut, 1/2 tspn turmeric powder, pepper powder, red chilli powder, garam masala, 1/2 chopped onion and some curry leaves. Grind it well..
Step 4 Heat oil in a pan, add 1 chopped onions and some curry leaves and saute it for a minutes..
Step 5 Add ginger garlic paste and saute it and add the grinded coconut mix and mix well..
Step 6 Add mussels and cook for 5 – 10 minutes..
Step 7 Mussels (kallumakkaya) thoran is ready to be served. Serve hot !.
